Proposal to the Illinois State Government Regarding the Creation of a CTA Silver Line

Date
2024

This concept for a CTA Silver Line would run around-the-clock between O'Hare and Midway, enabling seamless connections between Illinois' largest airports. At a distance of 19.67 miles, the trip could be completed in as little as 45 minutes, comparable to driving.

The prospective route, on page 1, includes stops at 19 stations, serving 15 communities and improving access to educational institutions, commercial districts, and green spaces. This alignment would enable transfers between several "L" and Metra lines, and a subsequent Green Line extension would facilitate connections from as far west as Elmhurst. Pages 2 and 3 preview the user experience on board the Silver Line, including station signage and a timetable. As illustrated on page 4, the entire route utilizes existing right-of-ways, which minimizes cost, environmental impact, and disruption to surrounding communities.
