Word Play is an environmental installation of typographic murals in Ainslie Arts Plaza of Chicago's Lincoln Square neighborhood. Each planter has 4x6 ft sides and word-based lettering murals were designed to wrap around them and encourage visitors to explore the plaza to see/decipher every word, find the ones they identify with, and create conversations. The words selected highlight traits artists and the larger community possess. This project added a layer of language to the foundation of artwork underfoot. Words can be powerful, resonate strongly with a person, and uplift a community.
*Selected for the STA100, 2021 and "Communication Arts" Typography Shortlist, 2022
