Typedelic Poster Series
Received a Communication Arts 2019 Award of Excellence/Published in the CA Typography Annual.
This promotion for Avondale Type Co. (ATC) is part of their Artist Series—an illustrated exploration of the alphabet, highlighting designers from around the world. Each artist interprets two letters and one symbol from an ATC typeface in addition to the ATC logo. Each poster is 20" × 20". Typeface promoted: ATC Harris.
The design started by creating a feeling of three-dimensional space, then exploring how highlight and shadow can inform (or confuse) the viewer about space—replacing light where dark might be in some areas. Flatness and depth are competing with each other. The design was inspired by the palette of vibrating colors in 1960's psychedelic posters.
