Dale Nichols

Dale Nichols is well remembered here as a painter and designer, and particularly through his association with Harry Higdon and Phoenix Flame. Traveling between Chicago and Arizona, he succeeded Grant Wood as art editor of Encyclopaedia Britannica. Later he lived in Alaska, Mexico, Louisiana and Mississippi; now lives in Guatemala where he paints and produces "metagraphs" (rubbings) of Mayan artifacts. 27 Chicago Designer founder: 1936-1938.
